The family of a teenager killed by a falling tree have described him as the "sweetest, kindest boy" in tributes.

The victim, identified by his loved ones only as Alex, was in King George Playing Fields near Lamarsh Road, Oxford on August 18 when he was struck by the falling tree and killed.

The 19-year-old, who still has family in Swindon, was based in the town before moving to Abingdon with his mother, He had only just bought his first flat in Oxford.

His cousin, Yvonne Webb, has now set up a fundraising page to help raise money for the young man's funeral and make life a little easier for his parents.

She described him as "the sweetest, kindest boy and never had a bad word to say against anyone".

She added: "He will be missed by all the family and everyone that knew him."

The GoFundMe page is asking for £15,000 and has received almost £2,000 in donations as of the time of writing.

In it, Yvonne said: "He was only 19 years old, just got his first flat and had his whole life ahead of him. He was the sweetest boy!

"Unfortunately he was involved in an accident with a falling tree and killed upon impact.

"I would like to raise as much as possible to help out with the costs of the funeral and living costs so my auntie can take as much time out as needed to grieve.

"Any little donation will help and will be very much appreciated in this hard time!"

Police responded to the incident after receiving calls that a member of the public had been struck by a tree.

Staff from South Central Ambulance Service were also called to the scene, as well as an air ambulance.

Emergency care was provided to the man but despite the best efforts of paramedics, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
