The following cases were heard in Swindon’s courts earlier this month.

WALCOT: Dylan Brown, of Hunsdon Close, has been jailed for having a zombie knife while in public.

The 19-year-old indicated pleas of guilty to having the blade and a quantity of cannabis while on Courtenay Road in Swindon on April 3.

The weapon and Class B substance have both been forfeited and destroyed. Brown will spend four months behind bars and must pay £85 in court costs as well as £154 to fund victim services.

SWINDON: Damien Lynch, of Collingsmead, has been jailed for theft.

The 40-year-old indicated pleas of guilty to trespassing in the Ermin Street Co-op with a female accomplice on August 16 with intent to steal, and to taking items worth £45.30 from the supermarket on the same occasion.

He has been sent behind bars for six weeks and must pay £149.95 in compensation.

WROUGHTON: Jamie Ellis, of Thorney Park, has been sentenced for burglary.

The 23-year-old was charged with entering Casa Del Burger and Street Gill on Theatre Square as a trespasser on July 4, 2022, and his guilty plea was taken into account.

He received a community order that requires him to carry out 60 hours of unpaid work in the next 12 months, and pay £185 in compensation as well as £85 in court costs.

DEVIZES: Tony Kelly, of Waylands, has been sentenced for drink driving.

The 51-year-old pleaded guilty to driving a Volkswagen Polo along Nursteed Road on September 6, 2022 after consuming so much alcohol that, when breathalysed, he had 86 microgrammes of alcohol in 100ml of breath.

This is more than double the legal limit of 35 microgrammes per 100ml.

He has been banned from driving for 20 months, fined £100, and ordered to pay £85 in court costs as well as £40 to fund victim services.

MELKSHAM: Joseph Tully, of Hurricane Road, has been sentenced for possession of Class A drugs.

The 46-year-old pleaded guilty to having 27.57 grammes of diamorphine (heroin) on him while in Melksham on December 29, 2022.

The illegal substance has been forfeited and destroyed. The defendant has been fined £50 and ordered to pay £20 to fund victim services.

SWINDON: Clifford Curtis, of Station Road and no fixed address, has been sentenced for a drugs offence.

The 43-year-old indicated a plea of guilty to possessing a quantity of cocaine with intent to supply it to another person while in Swindon on September 23, 2022.

The Class A substance has been forfeited and destroyed. The defendant must pay a £20 fine and £8 to fund victim services, which will be deducted from his benefits.

TROWBRIDGE: Richard Bridewell has been sentenced for assault.

The 51-year-old pleaded guilty to beating a woman in Trowbridge on June 19. He received a six-month conditional discharge and must pay £85 in court costs as well as £26 to fund victim services.

WIMBORNE: Andrew Harvey, of Winnow Close, has been sentenced for an insurance offence.

It was proved in the defendant’s absence that the 30-year-old’s vehicle in Wimborne did not meet the insurance requirements of the Road Traffic Act 1988.

He received a £220 and fine and must pay £200 in court costs as well as £88 to fund victim services.

BOURNEMOUTH: Paulina Mielech, of St Winifreds Road, has been sentenced for an insurance offence.

The 33-year-old admitted that her vehicle did not meet the insurance requirements of the Road Traffic Act 1988.

She received a £146 fine and must pay £200 in court costs as well as £58 to fund victim services.
