One of Swindon’s Indian restaurants has blamed its kitchen being “a little bit messy” as the reason for attaining a low food hygiene rating.
The Zaika Valley on Victoria Road was given a lowly two stars out of five in an inspection carried out by the Food Standards Agency on Tuesday, August 1.
The eatery was originally founded in 2010 and held a four star rating prior to the inspection but the report deemed improvement necessary regarding food hygiene and safety.
In addition, the structural compliance also needed improvement.
Raihan Ahmed has worked at the restaurant since 2018 and offered his thoughts on why the restaurant was given the poor rating.
“The main reason for the two rating the kitchen is a little messy and our freezer is messy,” he said.
“That is definitely the main thing and there is nothing else wrong as the inspector was just not happy with the deep cleaning.”
The 38-year-old feels aggrieved about the result but remains confident that the problems will be dealt with swiftly.
“It is not fair because we only need to do a little bit of work and it would be sorted,” said Raihan.
“We are happy that when the second visit is made our score will improve so we encourage people to still come and eat at our restaurant.”
