Two men were waiting outside an Old Town nightclub for a lone woman before sexually assaulting her, a prosecutor has told a court.

Nikhil Chopra and Aryan Choudhary are charged with sexually assaulting a woman near the Tree nightclub on Hoopers Place in the early hours of Sunday (September 3).

Chopra has additionally been charged with indecent exposure.

The pair have been remanded in custody, and will later appear at Swindon Crown Court on October 6.

Foreign student Chopra, 20, of Scarborough Road in Walsall, and asylum seeker Choudhary, 21, of no fixed abode, denied all charges against them.

In the short hearing at Swindon Magistrates' Court on Monday, prosecutor Keith Ballinger told the court: “It felt like they were waiting for her when she left a nightclub on her own."

In a statement on Sunday, DCI Nick Mawson said: “Members of the public flagged down officers who were on foot patrol in Hoopers Place as they were concerned for the safety of a woman.

“This is an extremely concerning incident involving a man who also encouraged the woman to get in his car, suggesting he could be a taxi driver.”

Mark Glendenning, Choudhary’s defence solicitor, told the court: “He says that he has no involvement in this incident at all other than to speak to this young lady and have his photo taken with her voluntarily."
