A café at Swindon’s indoor rock climbing centre has reached the summit of hygiene by scoring five-out-of-five in a recent assessment.
The Crux Café and Bar at the Rockstar Climbing Centre on Radway Road attainted the rating following the Food Standards Agency’s inspection on Tuesday, August 1.
Both the hygienic handling of food and the management of food safety were deemed to be very good by the inspectors.
James Deavin has been the climbing centre’s manager for eight years and he opened the café, which serves pizzas, beers and more, three years ago.
“It is very nice to show to our clients that we are still providing a good service to the climbing community,” he said.
“There are lots of steps to go through and processes to do but you just have to make sure your team is aware of it so it isn’t that difficult but you have to spend the time doing it.”
The 34-year-old loves working at the business and is proud of his skilful team.
“I love the atmosphere and the staff, that’s what has kept me here so long,” said James.
“I climb a little but it depends on the day but we have other team members in their twenties who are more skilled with a lot of experience with some competing at national competitions.”
