Ever tried curry on a pizza?

The unusual combination has been created by the owner of a new town centre restaurant that has just opened on Havelock Street and is already receiving good feedback from happy customers.

Kartheek Naraharisetty spent months getting the business ready and testing different ways to combine cultural cuisines.

Indian Fusion Pizza offers Chicken Tikka, Butter Chicken, Madras, and Vindaloo on pizza dough baked in-house, adds curry to its pepperoni, beef, and turkey bacon toppings, and provides a variety of vegetarian dishes including the chef's favourite Chilli Paneer.

A meat feast menu option with tomato sauce is also available for those who want a more typical type of pizza.

Kartheek said: "I've lived in Swindon for eight years, I like it here, and I love trying different cuisines, I'm a food lover.

"Pizza Hut and Dominos have tomato or barbecue sauces on their pizzas, which is a little bland, so I thought 'why not try it as a curry?'

"Adding different sauces to pizza really takes it to the next level. There was a lot of trial and error, I consulted food scientists to get the right balance of salt and spices, and came up with a good mix of flavours.

"We've had a lot of positive feedback and good reviews, the instant response has surprised me.

"I thought the Vindaloo might be too hot but people wanted it to be even spicier!

"People working in the town centre can come in during their lunch break for a £3.99 mini pizza, we make heart-shaped pizzas if you're celebrating an anniversary, and we'll soon be offering a breakfast menu with omelettes and sandwiches."

Kartheek managed a Swindon KFC for eight years before starting his own IT company and is now combining the food industry expertise and the experience of running a business to launch a new restaurant.

The team of four staff started serving customers in August.

Kartheek added: "People love the spices and flavours, they like the madras and the paneer, they say they have never tried anything like this before.

"We also want to offer more vegetarian and vegan options than other pizza places.

"Havelock Street has lots of history and people tend to set up cafes and restaurants with people eating outside and hanging out, we want to be part of that."
