The owners of a popular Swindon pub are seeking to sell it off.
JD Wetherspoon has just announced that it is getting rid of 11 boozers around the UK, including Cardiff, St Ives, Doncaster - and one in Swindon town centre.
This news comes one year after Wetherspoons previously announced that it was putting 32 pubs up for sale, many of which have now closed.
BRE and Savills have been jointly appointed by the business to handle the sale of a new portfolio of public houses which have been "identified for disposal".
Wetherspoon spokesman Eddie Gershon said: “ We can confirm that The Sir Daniel Arms, Swindon, has been put on the market by Wetherspoon.
“This is a commercial decision taken by the company.
“We appreciate that customers and staff will be disappointed with the news.
“The pub will remain open pending its sale.”
This is not the first time that news of this particular pub's impending sale has circulated.
It was put on the market in July 2021 before the company in charge changed its mind in December that same year.
A brochure for the site on Savills property auctions website dating back from that original sales attempt describes the property as an extensive three-storey building, held for a term of 125 years from 2007 at a peppercorn rent, with a late licence, 8,666 square feet of space, an external beer terrace to the front and side, and a popular balcony area on the first floor.
Its rateable value, as of 2017, was £115,000.
A Savills spokesperson said: "This represents a rare opportunity to acquire substantial, landmark public houses with a high standard of fit out in high profile locations.
"The properties, which are being considered for sale either as a portfolio, in small packages, or individually, are located across the UK and will appeal to existing operators, new entrants or those seeking alternative use subject to obtaining the appropriate consents."
Unlike in 2021, it appears that this time, the sale of the Fleet Street favourite that also covers a sizeable section of Bridge Street will indeed be going ahead, though the new owners have not yet been found.
The pub will remain open for now but what will happen after it is successfully sold is not yet known.
The Savoy and Dockle Farmhouse Wetherspoons are still trading, too, and will remain as part of the pub giant's portfolio.
