A resident of a Swindon suburb has been left angered after a large pile of litter was dumped on a communal area near their house.
The communal square in the housing estate of Bowleymead in Eldene has been strewn with litter including plastic bottles and paper bags.
The Bowleymead local, who wished to remain anonymous, could not believe their eyes after seeing the rubbish.
“I didn’t realise it was that bad until I saw it but that is absolutely disgusting,” they said.
“It’s an absolute mess and it makes the estate look so untidy so clearly nobody respects it anymore.
“Some of the kids just aren’t brought up to put rubbish away and they just leave it hanging around and they just don’t care.”
The resident believes that one way that the behaviour can be curbed is with the introduction of more bins around the area.
“There’s not many bins around the area so that would definitely help as there is only really one over at the bus stop,” they said.
“I don’t know why it is the Square area in particular but they do tend to hang around in there and there are no bins.”
The area is litter-picked weekly by Nythe, Eldene & Liden Parish Council and has left those on the council frustrated given its hotspot status for trash.
Parish council chairman Kevin Parry said: “It is a such a shame that a few people in the Meads spoil it for the majority.
“The Parish Council carries out weekly litter picks in the Meads and we allocate more time here than any other part of the Parish.
“On top of this, we have a volunteer who does litter picks in this area and any evidence we get is passed on to Swindon Borough Council.
“We would encourage anyone with any evidence of fly-tipping to report it to Swindon Borough Council.”
Cllr Mike Davies added: “I can't believe someone would do something like this.
“We have come to expect small amounts of litter due to carelessness, but this is wilful desecration of the environment that people try to keep looking nice through their own efforts and that of the Parish and Borough Councils.
“Achieving a nice environment needs everyone's effort and acts like this make it more difficult for everyone.”
