A new food kiosk in one of Swindon’s best-loved parks has achieved a top hygiene rating at the first attempt.
The Hjälpande Händer Catering team took over the Stanton Country Park stall in March and were given a five-out-of-five score for their efforts after inspection.
Swindon Borough Council’s environmental health inspectors found that staff’s hygienic handling of food was very good after visiting on Thursday, August 17.
Hjälpande Händer, which means helping hands in Swedish, is a charity that was set up in Swindon in 2019.
It aims to employ adults with learning difficulties to make sure they get paid for working so they feel valued.
Charity trustee Stuart Firth from Old Town was pleased with the score, recognising the importance of good hygiene.
“It is so important as this is the first time it has been graded because we have put in a lot of work to ensure we got that,” said the 50-year-old.
“We should all be aiming for a five and anything else we would have been disappointed with.”
The report also deemed the kiosk’s management of food safety as well as the cleanliness and condition of the facilities and building to be of a good standard.
