A new hotel has been opened in Swindon's town centre.

Whitbread unveiled its first-ever all-electric Premier Inn on 43-44 Regent Street on Monday.

The £17 million pound hotel close to the Town Hall and opposite the Savoy Wetherspoons pub has been built on the site of a former council-owned office block once known as Aspen House.

Standard and Premier Plus rooms are now available to book on the hotel's website

Chargeable on-site parking is available for £25 a night. The website suggests that those who do not want to opt for that parking service can use the Granville Road short-stay car park instead.

A spokesperson said: "There’s plenty to discover on days out in Swindon, and our Premier Inn Swindon Town Centre hotel has everything you need for a great value stay right in the heart of the action.

"Thanks to our central setting on Regent’s Street, we’re an ideal base if you fancy shopping in Wiltshire – with The Brunel Shopping Centre right on our doorstep plus Regent Circus and the Designer Outlet Swindon, bargain-hunters will be spoilt for choice.

"Culture lovers won’t want to miss visiting Swindon attractions like STEAM - Museum of the Great Western Railway and Wyvern Theatre too.

"After exploring Wiltshire, you can look forward to tasty meals back at our hotel restaurant and a cosy night’s sleep on a super-comfy bed."

Swindon Advertiser:

Powered entirely by renewable energy, the five-storey 195-bedroom hotel will operate without a connection to a mains gas supply.

Instead, heat pumps and solar panels will turn heat and natural sunlight into power.

The eco-friendly accommodation will be a model example for the chain's future hotels to follow.

Swindon Advertiser:

Work on the new addition to the high street began in March 2022 and took 19 months, well within the expected timeframe which predicted an opening date of November 2023 at the latest.

The hotel is in keeping with Swindon Borough Council's aim of achieving net zero and Whitbread's own target of reaching net zero emissions by 2040.

The accommodation will boost the town centre economy by driving an average of £3 million in guest spending annually, and it is hoped that it will encourage other investors and developers in Swindon to invest in low-carbon design elsewhere in the town centre.

Premier Inn already has Swindon hotels in Kembrey Business Park, in Lydiard Fields Business Park, and near the Blunsdon Bypass of the A419.
