The reason why a major Swindon supermarket’s petrol station has been closed for several hours has been revealed.
Asda’s petrol station at the West Swindon Shopping Centre was closed for several hours throughout Thursday morning and remained closed into the afternoon.
The closure mystified several Swindon residents who took to Facebook to question why there was no access to fuel.
One user commented: “Anyone know why the petrol station is closed at Asda West Swindon please?”
“They shut the doors mid-morning,” added a fellow resident who had tried to visit the location earlier in the morning.
Another resident saw the funny side and confirmed the shop itself was open by responding: “It’s open now, the wife’s in there now spending.”
The reason has now been revealed by the supermarket chain with officials claiming that the closure was down to maintenance works.
An Asda spokesperson said: “Our West Swindon petrol station is temporarily closed for planned maintenance.
“We apologise for any inconvenience caused.”
The fuel station remains closed at the time of writing but is expected to open later on Thursday afternoon and resume normal service.
