One of Swindon’s main roads has been closed by the police after severe flooding.

Queens Drive has been shut down in both directions by the police after heavy rainfall throughout Thursday night and Friday morning caused the road to flood.

A Wiltshire Police spokesperson said: “Due to the flooding caused by the extreme weather Queens Drive is currently closed in both directions.

Several bus services that use the road have all been diverted for Friday morning with the road inaccessible.

A tweet from Swindon Bus Company said: “Due to heavy rainfall and subsequent flooding across the network services are experiencing delays and short notice diversions.

“Queens Drive is currently closed from the roundabout with Drakes Way towards the GW Hospital.

Other areas of Swindon have been badly affected by the floods too with Hook Street being submerged.

National Rail had originally said that this would be sorted by 10am on Friday but later changed this to 1pm.
