Highly anticipated details of the new banking hub coming to Royal Wootton Bassett’s High Street have been revealed.
Run by Cash Access UK, the banking hub will be located at 33 High Street, in the same building as the existing Post Office which has recently moved its entrance.
Although no official opening date has been confirmed yet, the new hub will offer a counter service which is operated by the Post Office, where customers of all major banks and building societies can carry out cash transactions.
It will also offer a ‘community banker’ service, where customers can talk to their own bank about more complicated issues.
Community bankers will work on a rotation rota, with a different bank available from 9am-5pm on each day of the week.
So far, Cash Access UK has confirmed that a representative for NatWest will be at the banking hub on Mondays, Barclays on Wednesdays, Lloyds on Thursdays and HSBC on Fridays.
Other banks on the remaining days are yet to be confirmed.
Speaking about this new addition to Royal Wootton Bassett’s High Street, Gareth Oakley, CEO at Cash Access UK, said:
“We are delighted to have identified a site for the Royal Wootton Bassett Banking Hub and will share regular updates with the community on our progress.”
“Banking Hubs play a vital role in providing access to cash and banking services within communities where they are most needed.”
The new arrival is great news for Royal Wootton Bassett residents wanting face-to-face banking, after the town lost its last bank last year.
Although an opening date for the new banking hub has not yet been released, Cash Access UK say they are working hard to fit out the new premises.
In the meantime, a temporary Banking Hub is being considered to provide the community with access to cash.
“It is great news that we can formally announce the location of the Banking Hub for Royal Wootton Bassett and the surrounding communities as being in the current Post Office in the High Street,” said Wiltshire Councillors Steve Bucknell and Jacqui Lay.
“Work is underway to remodel the shop to provide banking services and also the post office.
“Lloyds Bank will also continue to have their banking advisor available every week at the Lime Kiln Centre on Thursdays,” they confirmed.
James Gray, MP for North Wiltshire, added:
“I was absolutely delighted to hear this announcement of the new Banking Hub for Royal Wootton Bassett.
“It is a huge step towards ensuring access to cash and banking services, and I look forward to seeing the positive impact it will have on the vibrant RWB High Street.”
