A Swindon fish and chip shop remains shut after a temporary closure following consecutive zero food hygiene ratings.

Mr Cod, located on Cricklade Road in Pinehurst, announced earlier this month that it would close for a fortnight.

This came after back-to-back bottom scores following hygiene inspections by Swindon Borough Council’s Environmental Health team.

A paper notice was left on the eatery’s door that read: “Sorry, we are closed for two weeks. Thank you.”

Three weeks have now passed since the notice first appeared but the shutters have not been lifted in the meantime and there is no answer on the telephone.

Given this, the permanent future of Mr Cod remains shrouded in mystery with its consecutive negative hygiene ratings not helping matters.

Following the first inspection on Friday, June 23, the council report stated that major improvement was necessary regarding the handling of food including preparation, cooking, re-heating, cooling and storage.

Urgent improvement was also deemed necessary for the management of food safety and the cleanliness of the building.

Mr Cod’s premises were inspected again on Wednesday, August 30, resulting in the same score while inspectors said urgent improvement was required.
