A fireworks business has opened its new store in Swindon ahead of Bonfire Night - despite battling floods on opening day.
Smart Fireworks was launched in 2020 and has been selling fireworks and sharing expert advice ever since from the Spectrum Building.
Yet the business was forced to move out of the iconic building alongside soft play centre Kidz About, leaving the team searching for a new home.
Smart Fireworks officially moved into a brand new store at the nearby Basepoint Business Centre on Friday, October 20.
Store general manager John Coombes from Stratton said: “Now that Kidz About has closed we no longer have the space either so we had to find a new home.
“It is a brand new shop that has allowed us to design it and build it with the customer in mind with a certain order making it easier to shop.
“We can display more items in our range in this shop in the old shop as it is bigger which allows us to buy in even more products.”
On the day of the store’s grand opening, Swindon was hit with major flooding but the team did not allow this to put a dampener on proceedings.
“We opened on the day of the flooding and a few customers phoned in and said they could not make it because of the flooding,” said John.
“We had some ice hockey players down here who helped us open it.
“It wasn’t as big as we were hoping because of the weather but all things considered it was still a good day.
“We have good drainage at the new site so we were not affected by it that badly.”
John and the team were in a race to open in time for Bonfire Night and are now ready to give their expert advice to Swindonians looking to celebrate the occasion.
“Our challenge was to find a premise that would allow us to operate in time for Bonfire Night,” he said.
“This is our fourth year so our business has grown and grown over the years so we are already for bonfire season.”
“We offer quality fireworks at reasonable prices but we are also professionals so we can give the proper advice as well as the products.
“Safety is our priority and we make sure we know what we are doing with the products and even build custom kits depending on what people’s requirements are.”
