The construction of a new retirement home is set to bring more than 100 jobs to Swindon.

Developer McCarthy Stone has had plans to build the new retirement home in Wichelstowe approved by Swindon Borough Council and demolition at the site has already begun.

The new Retirement Living development will consist of 41 privately owned, low-maintenance one and two-bedroom apartments designed specifically for over-60s.

The developers are set to employ a team of contractors, labourers, and security professionals to deliver the new community on Peglars Way.

The work will include painting, decorating and electrics.

The developers previously held a £200 competition to help name the new retirement home.

A house manager will also be employed to help support homeowners on-site and oversee the day-to-day running of the development once construction is complete.

Local retirees can now register their interest in the future retirement home.

Richard Courtney, construction manager for the new Wichelstowe site, said: “McCarthy Stone is committed to sourcing its contractors from the local work pool, which will help to provide a boost to the Wichelstowe community and economy."
