A new pizza place has opened in Swindon - at the back of a popular laundrette.
Ozzy’s Pizza and Kebab opened at its new home at 11 Moredon Road on Monday, October 23, offering a wide selection of pizzas, kebabs, fries and sides.
Yet this is no regular pizza business with its kitchen being located behind a popular laundry service store in the area.
Moredon Laundrette has been serving residents since March 2021 and is continuing to run alongside the new pizza shop.
Emrah Salik of Rodbourne owns both businesses and wanted to maximise space to ensure the pair could coexist.
“The laundrette has been there for two years and business has been going well for us so far,” he said.
“We split up the laundrette so inside there’s a lot of space for cooking the food in the kitchen.
“I built up a wall between the two businesses and used the back of the property as the pizza kitchen.”
The 40-year-old has more than 20 years of experience in the food industry having previously owned takeaways in Malmesbury, Cirencester and Swindon.
What sets this latest business apart from the rest though, apart from its somewhat unusual location, is that Ozzy’s Pizza and Kebab has no collection option.
Orders are placed and delivered but customers cannot enter the kitchen to place an order or pick up food themselves.
“This is only delivery because I do not want to do collection anymore as I’m working with Just Eat to get my food out to people,” said Emrah.
“It is good not to have too many customers inside because when it is on the computer it is easier to manage.
“When the customers used to walk in, they didn’t want to wait longer than 10 minutes so this lessens the pressure.
“It definitely depends on the area whether or not I would like customers inside but I think it works well here.”
Business started off slow for Ozzy’s Pizza and Kebab but has recently picked up - much to Emrah’s delight.
“The first week was pretty bad for business and I wondered if it was a good idea and wondered if we would have to close down,” he said.
“It has picked up in the second week and we are really happy with that, seeing a lot of people from Tadpole Garden Village especially ordering.”
