A pub is celebrating after finally achieving the top food hygiene rating on its most recent attempt.
The Rose & Crown in Highworth was given a five-out-of-five score following an inspection on Wednesday, October 25.
Swindon Borough Council’s Environmental Health team found the premises to be very good, upgrading from the pub's previous score of four.
The report stated that the hygienic handling of food which includes the preparation, cooking, re-heating, cooling and storage was very good also.
Jill Watkins, who has been landlady at the pub for nine and a half years, was particularly happy to see the improvement.
“This is the first time we have achieved the five stars and it was mainly down to paperwork for the reasons why we improved,” said the 54-year-old.
“I am very pleased to have got the new rating as we are a very small pub with a limited kitchen.
“We only do breakfast and lunch and nothing too elaborate but we still manage to do a decent amount of trade so it is important to keep everything hygienic.”
The pub’s cleanliness and condition of facilities and building were adjudged to also be very good while its management of food safety was rated as good.
