A LARGE car meet in Swindon overnight which was reported to be around 100 vehicles prompted a police response.

Car enthusiasts visited the town for a meet at Kembrey Park on Saturday evening.

Swindon Police issued a public post informing residents that officers were at the scene of the event and were looking out for signs of trouble.

The post said: "We are aware of a meeting of car enthusiasts currently taking place at Kembrey Park in Swindon.

"There are currently about 100 cars at the site and we are closely monitoring the situation to ensure public safety."

At the time of the statement at around 8pm, a Wiltshire Police spokesman confirmed that nothing illegal had yet taken place.

"There are no reported issues of anti-social behaviour and all those taking part appear to be acting within the law and respectfully towards our officers," he said.

"Those involved are reminded to be mindful of other road users and to ensure the safety of yourselves and others."
