A new weather warning has been announced for parts of Wiltshire as Storm Debi arrives.

The Met Office has issued the alert, which will last from 5am to 12pm on Tuesday.

A band of thundery rain is likely to push quickly east across the south west of England through Tuesday morning.

The area to which this warning applies covers part of Wiltshire just south of Swindon, passes near Calne, and includes Marlborough, Devizes, Trowbridge, and Westbury.

A Met Office spokesperson outlined what to expect: “Probably some damage to a few buildings and structures from lightning strikes or strong and gusty winds.

“There is a good chance driving conditions will be affected by spray, standing water and/or hail, leading to longer journey times by car and bus.

“Delays to train services and journeys by plane are possible.

“Some short term loss of power and other services is likely.”

Temperatures for November 14 will range from seven to 11 degrees Celsius, with a 60 per cent chance of rain between 7am and 9am, and from 11am to 12pm.

Wind speeds could reach highs of 27mph.

After the storm passes, cloudy skies with occasional sunny intervals are likely.
