A new restaurant in Swindon has fallen short of getting the top hygiene rating after its maiden inspection.
The 48 is a Pan-Asian eatery which opened at the former home of Thai Orchid on Victoria Road in Old Town midway through October.
Following an inspection by Swindon Borough Council’s Environmental Health team on October 18, the restaurant earned a four-out-of-five hygiene score.
Head chef Ravi Dahayalan blames problems with paperwork for not getting five but expects the score to improve next time after fixing the errors.
“We were graded four stars and the reason being is that we had a mild setback in the paperwork, which was called out as an area of improvement,” said the 46-year-old.
“The EHO was very helpful and guided us to rectify our fallbacks within a time period, which is now reviewed and updated.
“This has been sent to her approval and has been acknowledged.”
The restaurant’s hygienic handling of food was deemed to be good and so was the cleanliness and condition of its facilities and building.
Where it fell short on the report was its management of food safety which regards there being evidence that staff know about food safety as this was rated as generally satisfactory.
