A Swindon shop and café has been handed an award by the King for its contributions to the community.

Blunsdon Community Shop and Café has been given The King’s Award for Voluntary Service on Tuesday, November 14 - the King’s 75th birthday.

The café and shop promote and sell crafts from local artists, and offer a meeting place and warm-space for older people.

Over 40 volunteers work at the shop and are being commended for their efforts and contributions within the community.Swindon Advertiser:

They will receive a crystal as an award, and a certificate from the Lord Lieutenant of Wiltshire, Sarah Rose Troughton later this year.

Two volunteers will also attend a garden party at Buckingham Palace next Summer.

Jan Milsom, Acting Chair of the Blunsdon Community Shop and Café, said: “The Blunsdon Shop Management Committee are extremely proud to have won this prestigious award.

"We have all worked extremely hard this past year to launch our new shop and café, something we couldn’t have achieved without the support of our volunteers.

“This award is very fitting and demonstrates what you can achieve when you have a joint vision, desire and a drive to succeed for the benefit your local community.”
