An Old Town’s pub’s plans have been discontinued, and a new restaurant may be on its way in planning this week.

Od Town: A plan by the Steam Railway Co. pub in Newport Street to build a bigger storeroom and poolroom at the back of its property has been discontinued.

Nearly two years ago Punch Taverns put in the plan to put the building right on the boundary with houses behind it in Dewell Mews.

Residents wrote to planners saying they were concerned about the proposed removal of trees on their property and the removal of the boundary wall- leaving their properties vulnerable.

South Swindon Parish Council did not object to the plans, but did repeat the residents’ concerns.

The last activity in the application was in February 2022, and the council has deemed the application ‘finally disposed of’ and no longer active.

Highworth: The basement, and part of the ground floor of a listed building in High Street  can be turned back into housing.

The property was last used as a wine bar, but now developer T Fitzsimons wants to turn it into a three-bed flat.

Two bedrooms would be in the basement, along with a kitchen and bathroom, storage space and a living room. On the ground floor, what was the lavatory block for the bar, directly above the living room in the basement, will be converted to a habitable room, either as living space or another bedroom.

The outdoor smoking shelter on the ground level yard of the property would be removed, and a bike store added.

Extensions: Plans have been submitted to build extensions to houses, to add dormer windows, to build or convert existing outbuildings and lofts into habitable rooms at 13 Newhall Street, in the town centre; 10 Limes Avenue, Pinehurst; 165 Shrivenham Road, Central; 29 Rackham Close, Tadpole Garden Village; 28 Thirlestone Road, Old Walcot; 45 Priors Hill, Wroughton; 21 The mall, Old Town; 3 Beranburh Field, Wroughton; and 14 Bennell Close, Westlea.
