A Swindon nursery rated Outstanding by Ofsted celebrated Diwali with its children.

The Windmill Hill Day Nursery spent the week from November 13 to November 17 marking India's biggest holiday through a range of activities.

Pre-schoolers were able to showcase their creativity by making cards for their loved ones for the occasion while learning all about the customs of the Festival of Lights and dancing to traditional music.

They also made Indian Barfi sweets as well as trying on traditional garments and traditional samosas.

Windmill Hill Day Nursery manager, Kayleigh Blaylock said: “We believe that celebrating events like Diwali help to foster a sense of community, respect and inclusivity amongst our children from a young age and allows them to appreciate and embrace the culture and traditions that make each of us unique. Through engaging activities, interactive storytelling, and hands-on experiences, we aim to ignite the curiosity and understanding in our young learners.”

Team leader Jas Mander added: “We have had a fantastic time celebrating Diwali and it has been wonderful to share this part of my culture with the children and colleagues, who have really enjoyed learning more about the meaning behind the festival and tasting some of the foods traditionally eaten during this time.”
