One of Swindon’s major roads is set to reopen after months of roadworks.

Corporation Street in the town centre has been closed for three months following the commencement of works on August 14.

The busy road’s temporary closure has come as part of Swindon Borough Council’s multimillion-pound bus boulevard redevelopment.

SBC have been spending weeks changing the layout of the Whalebridge junction and Corporation Street to make them compatible with the regeneration of Fleming Way.

This also includes the Kimmerfields site next to Zurich's new UK head office which is estimated to cost around £33m.

Now it has been revealed that the reopening date for the busy road is Friday, December 1.

The closure has had an impact on bus services around the town centre, with services diverted via Manchester Road for the past three months.

With the imminent reopening of Corporation Street, Swindon’s bus services are set to change once more.

“We are continuing with our temporary timetables and routes until the end of service on the Friday, but we are urging those planning to travel with us from Saturday 2 December to make sure they are aware of the changes,” said Swindon’s Bus Company general manager, Andrew Sherrington.

“All of these details are available on our website and app, and we’ll be highlighting the revisions at bus stops.

“We have also published our Christmas and New Year timetables, which are available to view online.

“And, with the £2 fare cap for any single journey still in place, there is ample opportunity to get out and enjoy the festivities this December.”

Commencing on Saturday, December 2, several services will alter across the town.

Route 2, 13 and 14’s timetable will be unchanged but the service will revert to the original inbound route via Fleming Way (Spring Gardens) and Corporation Street.

Route 5, 11 and 12’s timetable will revert to the one used prior to the Corporation Street closure with buses to Orbital Park now stopping outside Swindon bus station at stop W instead of L.

Route 21, 23, 25’s timetable will revert to prior to Corporation Street closure as will 17’s but so will its route.

Route 22’s service will revert to a joined-up route between Okus and Barnfield via town centre with a revised timetable.
