Three people were arrested during a busy night out on patrol for police in Swindon.

Multiple officers were also injured on Saturday evening, as they patrolled Swindon's nighttime economy hotspots

Arrests were made following suspected incidents of criminal damage, racially aggravated public order, assault and possession of Class B drugs, the force confirmed.

The news came as Wiltshire Police gave an insight into their patrols of Swindon's nighttime economy on Saturday in which they say they dealt with “the good, the bad and the ugly”.

A Wiltshire Police spokesperson said: “It was great to see people out and about braving the cold and enjoying themselves in Swindon last night.

“There were several examples of people looking out for their mates who had indulged - a big shout out to the group of three women in Fleet Street who despite having one lift turn up for two of them, were steadfastly staying with their friend as they didn't want her waiting on her own for her lift - this is a great example of friendship, as it was very cold by that time, and heartening to see.”

Some residents on the night out were friendly with the officers who found some of the interactions to be amusing.

“We met a few people who were very, very happy and this resulted in their charm taps opening fully (thank you for the kiss on the hand - we think...), whilst others had a less pleasant side manifest itself,” said the police spokesperson.

Not everything that the officers experienced was entirely pleasant though as arrests were made after the team witnessed an array of offences.

“Unfortunately there were a number of incidents which saw a total of three arrests for numerous offences, including criminal damage, racially aggravated public order, assault, possession of Class B drug and assaults on police officers,” continued the police spokesperson.

“Fortunately all of our injured colleagues are okay, but this serves as a reminder that on a daily basis your police officers in Swindon are there working hard to keep you safe."

Before signing off the Facebook post, the police team had one final piece of advice for all that had attended the night out on Saturday.

“We hope everyone got home okay and there are no hangovers to manage,” concluded the police spokesperson.

“Water is good!”
