A Swindon Wetherspoons has installed CCTV cameras inside its toilets.

The Dockle Farmhouse near Greenbridge Retail Park now has cameras in both the male and female toilets.

The cameras do not cover urinals or cubicles and only track the sink area, a spokesman for the chain stressed.

A sign on the door of the male toilets on the first floor of the building declares that 'CCTV is in operation in the communal areas of these toilets for the prevention of crime and disorder'.

There are CCTV cameras around the pub and the decision has been made to clamp down on bad behaviour by customers.

Members of the public are concerned about the change.

The reaction on Facebook has been mixed, with some understanding the reasons but others claiming it is an invasion of privacy to have the cameras placed inside toilets.

Wetherspoons spokesman Eddie Gershon said: “CCTV covers the communal sink areas only of both the male and female toilets of the pub.

“The cameras do not cover urinals or cubicles.

“The decision to install the cameras was taken to promote customer and staff safety.

“It augments the existing CCTV system in the rest of the pub which is in place for the same reason.”
