Firefighters have given an update on a devastating canal boat fire in Wiltshire.
Emergency Services raced to the Kennet and Avon canal in Devizes on Saturday night at around 6.44pm after reports that a 60-foot long barge was in flames.
Firefighters battled long into the night to extinguish the fire but the boat was left submerged and completely destroyed.
Photos showed the level of destruction enacted on the barge which remained in the canal on Sunday morning.
The fire service has now released further details on the blaze including that the fire was only fully put out the following morning.
A Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We received a call at 6.44pm on the evening of Saturday, November 25, about a boat fire near London Road, Devizes.
“Crews from Devizes, Calne and Trowbridge attended the incident which involved a canal boat, well alight on arrival.
“Firefighters used three main jets to tackle the fire; police were requested to attend to close the footpath and road.
“The fire was extinguished (though a few hotspots remained internally), by 8.30pm.
“Police remained on scene overnight and a crew from Devizes reattended on Sunday morning to dampen down remaining hotspots.
“Our stop was in at 11.28am on Sunday, November 26.”
