A 'smoking' bus saw emergency services called to Royal Wootton Bassett High Street.
The Stagecoach bus broke down at a bus stop and was evacuated at around 11.30am on Wednesday, November 29 while police and the fire service were called out.
Mark Collins, 54, who runs The Tailor’s Shop next to the bus stop said others had seen a lot of smoke and that “the policeman said, let’s all step back just in case”.
A spokesperson for Stagecoach West said: "A small amount of coolant dripped onto a hot exhaust which caused some steam. A concerned local shopkeeper called the fire brigade thinking it was smoke from an engine fire."
A spokesperson for Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “We were called to the High Street in Royal Wootton Bassett at 11.36am this morning after smoke was seen issuing from a bus.
“Two crews attended, from RWB and Westlea, but it was found that the smoke was caused by an engine fault and there was no fire. Our stop was at 11.55am.”
