A fire at a Swindon car dealership involved an electric vehicle, the fire service has confirmed.
The Adver reported yesterday Swindon Audi at Delta Business Park in West Swindon had been forced to temporarily close in the wake of the fire, which broke out at around 9pm on Friday night (December 1).
Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service have now provided further details and explained that crews found a fire within a vehicle workshop involving an electric vehicle.
They confirmed that the cause of the fire was accidental.
A spokesperson said: “On arrival, crews found a fire within a vehicle workshop involving an electric vehicle.
“Eight breathing apparatus wearers used main lines and mechanical ventilation to extinguish the fire and at the height of the incident eight pumping appliances were in attendance from Westlea, Swindon, Stratton, Marlborough, Royal Wootton Bassett along with the Aerial Ladder Platform from Swindon and support unit from Devizes.
“The cause of the fire has been confirmed as accidental.”
Following the fire, side of the showroom had been cordoned off with tape that had ‘FIRE DO NOT CROSS’ written on it.
The showroom was closed all day on Saturday.
