A Swindon restaurant has been given a vibrant makeover thanks to a new outside mural.
Moshan Island Grill on Devizes Road in Old Town has been a Swindon favourite for years but has recently undergone a revamp.
The Carribean restaurant has seen many changes inside, but now its transformation has changed into another gear thanks to the new mural.
It was painted by local artist Nathan Jacka AKA Jacksta Art.
After designing murals across town including the Batman montage on Bathurst Road and The Godfather quote on Corporation Street, Nathan’s latest project was personal.
“I have been going to Moshan for many years and think very highly of their food, it is amazing,” he said.
“So it was a pleasure to be asked to paint the outside of their restaurant as part of a revamp for the restaurant.”
The 42-year-old artist spent four days painting the colourful piece which features various elements of Caribbean wildlife.
“The design process was a two-way process between me and the owners but we wanted the artwork to have that Caribbean vibe and also grab your attention when you walk past,” said Nathan.
“This is why we went for a tropical look with the leaves, flowers and parrot.
Nathan is pleased with how the mural has turned out and residents walking by have agreed so far since it was finished on December 3.
“Personally as an artist I wanted the painting to have that 3D element so it looks real and you're pretty much entering that Caribbean world,” he said.
“I am really happy with how the painting turned out, especially under the freezing cold conditions we have had recently.
“So far it has been well received and I think it adds some much-needed colour to Swindon.”
Reactions have been positive from those involved with street artworks in the town as well as the restaurant itself.
A post about the mural on Moshan Island Grill’s Facebook page accompanied by photos of Nathan’s work said: “Absolutely speechless!”
Swindon Paint Fest co-organiser Helen Salter said: “Amazing work by the legend we know as Nathan Jacka!”
The eatery which recently came second in the UK Caribbean Restaurant Award 2023 has undergone a major redevelopment inside.
Amongst the various changes was the addition of an extra bathroom while the owners also extended their lease on the property for a further 15 years.
