These images from the Adver's archive show snapshots of the family that owns Bowood House.
The Grade I-listed Georgian country house in 100 acres of parkland near Calne has a rich heritage.
The Bowood Estate has been home to the Lansdowne family for more than 250 years.
The hotel, spa, and golf resort is open all year, while its stunning gardens regularly attract crowds from far and wide when the Lansdownes open the gates to visitors each year during the spring.
As well as highlighting important milestones like christenings and weddings, the photos show some of the many occasions when local dignitaries and community group members have visited the luxurious estate to see the gardens, lake, chapel, adventure playground, and the rest of the grounds.
Exhibitions are often held to show some of the precious items housed inside the vast estate.
Bowood's Gardens will re-open for their 50th season from March 29 to November 3, 2024. Tickets are now available from www.bowood.org
