What makes Christmas, Christmas? Presents, family and most importantly, the food.
Arguably, the most exciting and most anticipated part of the day is the big plate of pigs in blankets, Yorkshire puddings and general Christmas goodness.
Although on the day you may indulge in a homemade Christmas dinner, that doesn’t stop the glorious meal being consumed in the run-up to the big day.
Christmas parties and the temptation of not having to wash up will most definitely mean there will be more than one Christmas dinner consumed this year.
We asked Adver readers for their recommendations for Christmas dinners in Swindon, here is what they recommended.
The Harvester
Surprisingly, Harvester was at the top of the list alongside another pub chain for recommendations with many of our readers choosing the chain as their favourite go-to for a Christmas Dinner.
The Harvester is offering a menu specifically for Christmas Day and Boxing Day but for those who cannot wait, there is a Christmas menu available throughout December.
The restaurant is located on Latham Road along Thames Drive and has been commended for its service by reviews on Trip Advisor
Fox and Hounds
The Fox and Hounds pub in Wroughton is doing a Christmas Dinner but with a twist.
The traditional pub is hosting Christmas Cabaret Evenings throughout December. Those looking for a scrumptious three-course Christmas Dinner and a plateful of entertainment are in for a treat. Mark Francis who appeared on the Paul O’Grady Show is hosting the evening and the pub promises an “unforgettable night”.
The Brown Jack
Wroughton secures its second recommendation with the Brown Jack.
The popular local pub has a pool table, dart board TV and regularly runs different events. Well this December, they are offering a Christmas menu which offers a three course meal including your usual traditional Christmas Dinner as well as vegetarian options.
A tea or coffee and a mince pie is also offered to end your meal on a high
Carpenters Arms
The Carpenters Arms in South Marston is offering a Christmas menu, is dog friendly and even offers a menu for dog food so that your dog can enjoy Christmas alongside you.
One Trip Advisor user wrote about the pub: “Lovely breakfast and reasonable price. Love coming here when visiting my daughter. Such a nice pub in lovely surroundings.”
Toby Carvery
The other most suggested pub was the famous Toby Carvery, The Friary in North Swindon. The popular roast buffet is as always, offering a Christmas Menu and Adver reader’s were eager to recommend it.
The pub is offering its usual roast but with a Christmas twist including the fan favourite pigs in blankets and all the trimmings according to its website.
Chicken Liver & Brandy Pate, Salmon & Prawn Wellington and a Christmas pudding have been added to their Christmas menu.
The Rat Trap
The Rat Trap on Highworth Road has made the list.
This pub which earned its name from it landlords' bold tactics to get customers to pay their tab is offering a three-course Christmas Dinner.
With a wide variety of food on their Christmas Dinner and prices varying from £21.95 to £26.95. You can’t miss out on this one.
The Goddard Arms
The Goddard Arms in Old Town is a well-known and popular pub in the town and is offering residents of Swindon their own taste of Christmas.
Their website teases customers as they offer “oozing baked Camembert” and a “sumptuous chocolate and clementine torte”.
Trip Advisor users praise the pub for its service and quality food.
Some other honourable places that were recommended: The Wheatsheaf Ale House, The Bell Inn, Fat Boy Slim at Haydon Wick Working Men's Club, The Kingsdown, The Bakers Arms and The New Calley Arms.
