The former site of a kitchen firm in Swindon has now been sold to a Reading-based company, after a year of sitting empty.

Optiplan Kitchens, which was based on Kelvin Road opposite Swindon Powertrain, went into administration in November 2022.

Workers at the Kelvin Road branch, near Greenbridge Industrial Park, faced mass redundancy and the showroom gates were locked.

"Despite taking action to restructure the business in April, escalating utility costs and further material cost increases have eroded the benefits that were achieved from this,” said former Optiplan CEO Jason Limbert in a letter to employees.

"Given the ongoing economic challenges with seemingly no end in sight to the high levels of ongoing inflation, we have reached the conclusion that there is no viable alternative to this action."

One year on from the closure, estate agents Whitmarsh Lockhart has now confirmed that the 2,505 square metre site has been sold to a “Reading-based company.”

The estate agents have given no further details about the company or how much the site was sold for, but a Zoopla listing earlier this month showed the site as being listed for £2.85 million.

The property includes a detached manufacturing building in a self-contained plot, which comprises of three interlinked portal frames.

The ground floor includes a principal manufacturing area, whilst the upper floor has a kitchen, showroom, offices and further storage.

The property also boasts large car parking and a service yard area, which could be a huge benefit to whichever company moves in there next.
