A worker at a Chinese takeaway in Swindon says that a low food hygiene rating did not affect business as inspectors returned and recorded an improvement.
Oriental Express at Clive Parade off Cricklade Road was initially given a two-out-of-five score following an inspection on Thursday, September 7.
Staff complained that this was given due to a “language barrier” between workers and believed the score would improve.
Following a second inspection on November 15, the takeaway was upgraded to a four-out-of-five score.
“The owners just followed all of the guidelines that the hygiene people reported,” said one member of staff.
“They did everything to a higher standard and I think now they have realised some of the things that needed to change.
“They’re on top of it now and it will be fine from here on.”
Swindon Borough Council’s Environmental Health team deemed the building’s hygiene and practices to be of a “good” standard following their visit.
“I think we are on route for a five now as it was just a blip and one that has now been sorted,” the worker added.
“We haven’t lost regular customers so it hasn’t really affected us.
“They have remained loyal as many of them have been eating here for years so they are well aware of the quality of the food.”
