A bar and nightclub in Swindon has seen a dramatic drop in its food hygiene rating following a new inspection.
Masai Choma House of Ferndale Road in Gorse Hill was visited by Swindon Borough Council’s Environmental Health team on Saturday, October 18.
The working men’s club, which serves a variety of drinks and food, was given the lowly score of one-out-of-five, having previously been rated five.
After inspecting the premises, SBC’s inspectors deemed that major improvement was necessary at the business.
The eatery’s hygienic handling of food was found to be satisfactory in general, despite the critical report.
This refers to how the preparation, cooking, re-heating, cooling and storage of food.
But major improvement was deemed necessary regarding the cleanliness and condition of the facilities and building.
This includes having an appropriate layout, ventilation, hand washing facilities and pest control to enable good food hygiene.
Inspectors also took issue with the social club’s management of food safety, where they adjudged major improvement to also be necessary.
This includes having a system in place to ensure that food sold or served is safe to eat as well as evidence that staff know about food safety.
It also refers to whether or not the food safety officer has confidence that standards will be maintained in future.
