A popular children’s park in Royal Wootton Bassett is about to receive a major facelift with brand-new play equipment for youngsters.
The toddler play area of Old Court Park will closed on Wednesday, January 3, and is expected to reopen on Monday, January 22.
Speaking about the closure, a spokesperson for Royal Wootton Bassett Town Council revealed: “The old play equipment will be removed in preparation for the contractors installing the new play equipment on Monday, January 8, 2024.
"The new equipment for the Old Court Toddler Play Park will include a new slide, two swings, a crazy hen rocker and a spinner bowl."
Although the new toddler play area is expected to reopen to the public on January 22 (weather dependent), the play area intended for older children is not being refurbished and will remain open as usual.
Old Court Play Park was reopened in August 2020 after the Covid-19 pandemic, and was given a refurbishment by a team of locals, the town council and a playground specialist.
It was intended as an accessible park for children of all abilities, with bright contrasting colours, safety handles and a supportive swing for youngsters with disabilities.
However, local families say that the toddler play area of the park does not match the facilities provided for older children, and a refurbishment has been long awaited.
