A corner pinnacle fell onto the roof of a Wiltshire church during Storm Henk.
People had gathered at St Margaret's Church in Yatton Kennel near Chippenham on Tuesday for the long-running weekly lunch club when the incident happened.
The slender spire left a three-foot-wide hole in the roof during its fall, then bounced off and landed near the bins outside the place of worship.
Nobody was injured.
The church and churchyard will be closed while repairs are being carried out and the debris is removed from the area.
The church is now asking for people to support them by donating money at the Bybrook Benefice website to help pay for the damage to be fixed, or by volunteering to assist in cleaning up the mess.
This is the second instance of roof damage in the Diocese of Bristol due to storm Henk, alongside numerous reports of water damage to church buildings and fallen trees.
Revd Marc Terry said: "Thankfully no one was hurt, and all are okay.
"We are concerned by the damage to the church. The Team Rector and PCC are working with the diocese and authorities to re-open the church safely and quickly so that the community groups, lunch clubs, and services can restart.
"If you feel moved to support the church you can do so by visiting https://bybrook.org.uk/support-us/supporting-st-margarets-financially"
