An eyewitness has shared their account of a violent brawl which took place in Swindon town centre, leaving at least two people injured.
The fight, which took place outside Costa Coffee on The Parade on Friday afternoon (January 12), left members of the public watching on in horror.
One member of the public, who asked to remain anonymous, recounted the moment the mass brawl sparked.
“We were just walking up to Costa from Greggs and just heard some lads shouting at some people inside the coffee shop," they said.
“It was quite alarming. One lad was shouting and he said he was going to do the same thing and stab them back.
“One person then came out of Costa and sprayed the group of shouting lads with a fire extinguisher, and that’s when all the violence really kicked off.”
Chairs were thrown at the young people and were kicked to the floor, and a knife was spotted at the scene, he claims.
“A couple of them went into one of the charity shops at one point and they seemed to calm down, but then it all kicked off again and women were screaming and shouting and people said they saw a knife.”
Video footage of the scene sent to the Swindon Advertiser shows a knife visible on the floor.
“A lot of people were in distress. One guy was kicked to the floor and wasn’t moving and members of the public rushed to go help him," said the witness.
“Someone did come out of one of the shops nearby with a medical kit, although I couldn't really see too much of what happened,” they added.
“The other lads who were getting attacked all ran off.”
Ambulances and five police cars attended the scene, and the area was cordoned off between Poundland and TSB.
"We were called to The Parade just after 3.15pm today following reports of approximately 10 people involved in a fight," said a spokesperson for Wiltshire Police.
"At this very early stage, we believe two people have been injured.
"If you witnessed the disorder and have not made yourself known to officers, please do so immediately. Call 101 and quote log number 207 of today."
