A town centre shoe store has suddenly closed its doors.

Schuh, which is located in the Parade Shopping Centre, is believed to have closed its doors on Saturday, January 13.

The Scottish footwear company says that no jobs were lost as all staff were offered jobs elsewhere in the company.

Schuh confirmed the closure in a statement to the Adver.

A spokesperson said: “Schuh in The Parade Shopping Centre, Swindon, is now closed.

"We have contacted our local customers and advised them that their next closest stores are Cheltenham, Bath, or Newbury.

Members of the public took to Facebook to share their disappointment at the news that the shop was closing. Many praised the shop for its good service and friendly staff.

One Facebook user said: “That is a real shame another good shop gone and they are always so helpful."

Others shared their concerns for the state of the town centre.

This is because the news comes after some of the biggest shops in Swindon’s town centre closed its doors in 2023.

Wilko, also located along the Parade, shut in October after the chain went into administration and it failed to find a new owner. It was later replaced by Poundland.

The large M&S store, which was located inside the Brunel Shopping Centre, also shut in October.
