A busy Swindon petrol station will soon become fully automated, it has been confirmed.
The Asda petrol station at the Orbital shopping park in North Swindon will soon go under a major refurbishment, with the kiosk scrapped and pay at the pump facilities being the only way to pay for fuel.
Asda said it would bring "great benefits", but did not confirm when the changes would be made.
A spokesperson for the supermarket said: "The petrol station at Asda, Haydon will undergo a refurbishment.
“This will bring great benefits and better service to customers including new pumps and contactless payment facilities.”
But one motorist has hit out at the decision.
“The lady in the petrol kiosk said on Saturday that all pumps at the Orbital will be pay-at-the-pump soon,” said one shopper.
“There won’t be any staff to deal with any problems. Automated is all very well until something goes wrong.”
Asda clarified that no one would be losing their job as the colleagues who currently work on the kiosks will be redeployed when the change comes in.
The switch represents yet another alteration to Swindon’s busiest petrol stations after two other popular spots temporarily closed this month.
Sainsbury’s fuel station on Paddington Drive in Bridgemead has been shut since Tuesday, January 2, and will remain closed until Friday, January 26.
The Tesco petrol station located on Ocotal Way has not been operating since Monday, January 15, reopening on Monday, January 22.
