A spokesperson said: "Crews from Swindon, Stratton and Westlea were called to a property fire on Oxford Road, Stratton St Margaret at 9.16am this morning.

"The incident involved a garage fire, which was spreading to the house – four breathing apparatus wearers used main and hose reel jets to extinguish the fire.

"Our stop was in at 10.29am."

A reporter on the scene said that around a dozen firefighters were working on the fire.

Oxford Road was closed by Wiltshire Police towards the town centre to allow crews to work, which caused traffic to back up along the busy road as well as around the White Hart Roundabout.
