Thames Water has reached the final stages of its new £45 million pipeline project and is preparing to meet with the Swindon community.
The project, which will installs 13.7km of pipeline running between Blunsdon and Faringdon, aims to upgrade the water supply across Swindon and is due to be functional by spring 2024.
Construction of multi-million-pound pipeline started in May 2021 and the company says it will 'significantly reduce leaks' in an area which has a history of burst pipes.
Now hoping to ease the worries and queries of Swindon locals, Thames Water and its partner Kier are inviting Swindon communities and customers to meet with company representatives who can answer all questions about the upgrades.
The community session will be held on Tuesday, February 20, from 10am to 12.30pm at Highworth Community Centre.
Chris Reeves, head of programme delivery at Thames Water, explained: “It’s our job to deliver a safe and secure supply of water for all our customers.
"Our new water transfer pipe will build resilience across Swindon and ensure we keep the taps flowing for future generations.
“The pipeline will also benefit the local environment, reducing reliance on groundwater sources that draw from chalk streams and the River Kennet during high demand and drought conditions.”
“We’re proud to be using our expertise to deliver this vital project for Swindon," added Andy Muncer, project director at Kier.
"It’s a complex piece of work and we've taken an innovative approach to ensure it’s being delivered efficiently to a high-quality, and in a way which protects the local environment."
