A house fire has sparked a large response from fire crews all across Swindon and Wiltshire. 

The home just outside Chippenham caught fire last night and crews from Trowbridge fire station attended the scene. 

They were joined by pumps from Swindon, Westlea and Stratton St Margaret fire stations, as well as from Chippenham and Royal Wootton Bassett. 

Wiltshire Police, South Western Ambulance Services NHS Foundation Trust and the gas board were also in attendance.

A spokesperson for Trowbridge Fire Station said: "A fire investigation officer was due at the property this morning to determine the cause of the fire.

"However a great job from all involved to prevent fire spread to other properties and extinguish the fire."

Volunteers from the Wiltshire and Gloucester British Red Cross Emergency Response team also attended to assist firefighters in their duties. 

A spokesperson said: "On Friday night, volunteers from Wiltshire and Gloucester teamed up to provide support at a Domestic Fire in Chippenham.

"Over a dozen fire engines from DW Fire Rescue were on scene, including Chippenham Fire Station Swindon Fire Station and Warminster Fire Station.

"We provided refreshments and a safe space in our specially equipped vehicle for local residents being evacuated until the scene was contained."
