The swimming pool in the Link Centre will be closing temporarily to allow for flood damage repairs to be finished.

The West Swindon leisure centre was stricken by floodwater after heavy rain in September, which took out the building's power supply and left the ice rink, pool and other areas out of action.

But, thanks to hard work from everyone involved, everything in the centre, except the Swindon Borough Council-run library, was back up and running within months.

But when it comes to the pool, this was only possible with temporary plant equipment.

And now the time has come for new permanent plant equipment to be installed, leisure operator Better has announced.

As a result, the pool will be closing for one week from Monday, February 26, to Sunday, March 3.

A Better spokesperson said: "Following the full centre closure after last September flood damage, the pool reopened at the earliest opportunity with a temporary plant arrangement to ensure it could be utilised by our customers, clubs and schools, from the first week in January.

"While works continued in the pool area, it is now time to carry out the final works consisting of replacing the temporary plant with new permanent equipment, including filtration, sanitisation and circulation systems.

"This requires the pool to be closed to the public for a week.

"We appreciate this is a further inconvenience to our loyal customers, and thank you all again for your support and understanding."

The leisure operator has confirmed members will receive an email with further information related to their Better Health or Swimming Lessons memberships.

But it added that in the meantime, swimming sessions remain available at its other Swindon swimming pool at Dorcan Better Health and Recreation Complex.

"Every member will see their membership upgraded to include access to the facilities. Please click on the below to see all available swim sessions," the spokesperson added.

Better was responsible for managing four publicly accessible swimming pools in Swindon as it managed the Oasis until its permanent closure.

It is now still responsible for three, although the Health Hydro on Milton Road is currently closed for refurbishment, leaving the Link Centre and the Dorcan leisure sites as the two remaining open ones.

The leisure operator also manages the Croft Sports Centre, Haydon Centre and Gym and Delta Tennis Centre.
