A ‘bleed box’ which has the potential to save lives has been installed outside St John’s Church in Swindon after a group of young people fundraised and campaigned for it.
Children and teens from South Swindon Parish Youth Group worked to raise £850 through community events and sponsored works so that the new box could be installed.
Each kit, like the one recently installed outside St John's Church, includes trauma dressings, gauze, chest seals, tourniquets and more to help control the bleeding of casualties until an ambulance can arrive.
"I'm so proud of our youth club members who worked tirelessly to raise money for this worthy cause," said Loreli Huntley, a South Swindon Parish Council Youth Worker.
"It just goes to show that when young people come together around a shared goal of helping our community, amazing things can happen.
“This bleed control box is an amazing piece of kit and will be critical if the worst were to happen.”
Young people from the Swindon Youth Club raised a total of £850 by hosting events such as the Shaftesbury Lake Wildlife Discovery Day, Buckhurst Family Fun Day, and a sponsored walk of the South Swindon Green Trail.
They presented their fundraising proceeds to the Parish Council, who then purchased and installed the life-saving bleed control box on the side of St. John's Church, across from Cavendish Square.
