The following cases were heard at Swindon Magistrates' Court this month.

ROYAL WOOTTON BASSETT: Timothy Cadby, of Rylands Way, has been sentenced for driving offences.

The 44-year-old pleaded guilty to driving a Citroen Relay along the High Street on January 30, 2024, without a valid licence or insurance after consuming so much alcohol that the proportion of it in his breath, namely 57 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, exceeded the prescribed limit.

The defendant has been banned from driving for 40 months, fined £300, and ordered to pay £85 in court costs as well as £120 to fund victim services.

PENHILL: David Mundy, of Farndale Close, has been sentenced for thefts from a shop.

The 34-year-old pleaded guilty to stealing meat worth £50 from the Tesco Express on Cheney Manor Road on February 5, 2024, taking laundry items worth £51.80 altogether from the Beechcroft Road Co-op on February 11, 2024, shoplifting four boxes of Ferrero Rocher worth £22 altogether from the same shop on February 6, 2024, and returning to that Co-op on February 12, 2024, to steal laundry products worth £36.60 in total.

He has been jailed for four months due to the serious nature of the offences and the repeat offending to fund an addiction, according to court documents, and must pay a total of £160.10 in compensation.

ABBEY MEADS: Ashley Knipe, of Waggoner Close, has been sentenced for driving offences.

The 21-year-old pleaded guilty to driving a Vauxhall Combo VRM along Beechcroft Road in Swindon without insurance or due care and attention, and failing to stop the vehicle when required by police.

The defendant has been banned from driving for six months, fined £250, and ordered to pay £85 in court costs as well as £100 to fund victim services.

MELKSHAM: Sharon Wetton, of Bryans Close Road in Calne, has been sentenced for a driving-related offence.

The 58-year-old pleaded not guilty but was later found guilty of failing to provide a breath sample to police when required in Melksham on May 5, 2021, after being suspected of having driven a vehicle and in the course of an investigation into whether she had committed an offence.

She has been banned from driving for 36 months, fined £480, and ordered to pay £725 in court costs as well as £48 to fund victim services.

RODBOURNE: Gareth Parry of Manton Street, has been sentenced for four offences.

The 50-year-old pleaded guilty to stealing items worth £2.65 from Co-op on December 16, 2023, and goods worth £2.75 from the Swindon Iceland on December 10, 2023, as well as assaulting a man in Swindon on December 10 and possessing a quantity of cocaine on January 26, 2024.

The Class A drug has been forfeited and destroyed.

He must pay £90 in compensation to the assault victim.

TOWN CENTRE: Thomas Kennedy, of Farnsby Street, has been sentenced for possession of Class A drugs and assault by beating.

The 50-year-old indicated pleas of guilty to having cocaine and heroin on him while in Swindon on January 27, 2024, and admitted assaulting a man on December 31, 2023.

The illegal substances have been forfeited and destroyed.

He received a community order that requires him to attend up to five rehabilitation activity days and pay £70 in compensation to his assault victim.

TOOTHILL: Vanessa Blakey, of Beaulieu Close, has been sentenced for wilfully obstructing a highway.

The 27-year-old pleaded guilty to blocking part of the A419 at Commonhead on January 30, 2024.

She received a £100 fine. There was no order to cover court costs due to lack of means.
