A name familiar to travellers from all across the country could be disappearing from Swindon railway station.
And it might be replaced by one familiar to people the world over.
An application has been put in to the borough council’s planning department to change the refreshment kiosk inside the station at Platform 4 from a branch of Upper Crust to a Starbucks outlet.
The application says: “The proposal is to upgrade the existing store to the latest store brand concept; a concept currently being introduced across the country within rail station environments The new Starbucks concept will enhance the customer experience and introduce new products to the current range.”
While the branding and lay out will be changed, the essential structure of the station and platform will not, according to the application which says: ”No structural works are proposed, and no alterations to any of the listed building elements is proposed, all building features are to be retained.”
Drawings show that the kiosk will feature a familiar barista area and in the main body of the café will be three small ‘perch’ tables for two and one larger one with six ‘perches’.
