A VW driver damaged four vehicles and then left the scene of the crash in Swindon.

Sebastian Lee, of Wiltshire Avenue, pleaded guilty to failing to stop his Volkswagen Golf after a road accident on Beatrice Street involving a Honda, Peugeot, Citroen and Nissan Micra on August 8, 2023.

At his sentencing in Swindon Magistrates' Court in February, the 34-year-old received a £120 fine and eight penalty points on his driving licence and must also pay £85 in court costs as well as £48 to fund victim services.

Keith Ballinger, prosecuting, said: “At midday, he drove down the street, maybe slightly faster than the speed limit, and a car pulled out of a parking space.

“He hits that and a couple of parked cars. CCTV shows… his car does stop just after the collision and then he looked at the other vehicles and drove off.”

When approached by police later, Lee admitted to what had happened.

Emma Hillier, defending, said: “He was shocked and panicked and scared. He does suffer from panic attacks and is struggling with his mental health. His instinct was to flee the scene.

“The other driver had a shoulder injury, but he would not have known that.”
