The council has highlighted one of the important services it provides that 'hardly anyone notices'

When there’s an incident on Swindon’s roads, whether that’s a collision involving vehicles or one that also involves streetlights or bollards, Swindon Borough Council has a role to play alongside the police and other emergency services.

Its Highways team are always quickly on the scene whenever there is a crash on the roads and a callout inspector and council officer attend the incident and take photos of any vehicle involved, the registration number and any damage to council assets.

"This helps us to fix any issues as soon as we can and follow up with anyone involved," a spokesperson for the council said.

If you see any damage or faults while on the road, please visit the council's website and report it here

"After the clean-up operation, every detail is passed to our income recovery officer who starts the process of recovering costs against the driver (via their insurance company).

"If we’re not informed of the incident and our team comes across any damaged assets, we will make it safe and repair the issues as quickly as possible.

"We then make contact with the police to see if they have anything logged on their system and, if so, they will provide us with the details so we’re able to pursue recovery costs."
